The Proven Power of Therapy: Why Seeking Help Is a Sign of Strength

May 12, 2025 by Get Centered Counseling Coaching and Wellness

In today’s fast-paced, often overwhelming world, taking care of your mental health is not just a luxury—it’s essential. While some people still associate therapy with crisis or weakness, the truth is that counseling is a powerful tool for growth, resilience, and long-term well-being. And the research backs this up.

At Get Centered Counseling & Coaching, we understand that making the decision to seek therapy can feel intimidating. That’s why we want to share what science—and real people—say about the benefits of therapy, while giving space for you to hear from clients who’ve walked this path.

Therapy Works—And the Research Proves It

The American Psychological Association (APA) states that about 75% of people who enter therapy show some benefit. That means that three out of four people report feeling better emotionally, mentally, and even physically after engaging in counseling.

Let’s look at the numbers more closely:

  • Depression: Studies show that cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is as effective as antidepressant medications for many individuals. The National Institute of Mental Health reports that 60% of people with moderate to severe depression see significant improvement with talk therapy.

  • Anxiety: According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, therapy is highly effective for anxiety disorders, with response rates between 60-80% when individuals commit to treatment.

  • Trauma and PTSD: Trauma-focused therapies, such as EMDR and somatic therapy, have shown success rates as high as 77% for trauma survivors, helping clients regain control of their lives.

  • Couples Counseling: The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) reports that 90% of couples who complete therapy say their emotional health improved, and 66% experienced improvements in their physical health.

  • Overall Quality of Life: Research published in the journal Psychotherapy found that individuals who engage in therapy experience increased self-esteem, better relationships, improved communication, and a greater sense of life satisfaction.

Therapy Enhances Whole-Person Wellness

At Get Centered, our whole-person approach to counseling goes beyond symptom relief. We work with clients to align their emotional, physical, relational, career, spiritual, and financial well-being. Our belief is that true healing happens when all parts of your life are given space to grow.

Whether you’re facing daily stress, navigating grief, managing ADHD, or rebuilding after a relationship loss—therapy offers tools to not only cope but to thrive.

“Before therapy, I felt like I was constantly treading water. After just a few sessions, I started understanding my patterns, setting boundaries, and feeling hope again.”
— [Client Testimonial]

“I can’t thank you enough for all the strategies you’ve given me!  My life has practically turned around since coming to see you and I can’t tell you how grateful I am!” – [Client Testimonial]

Reducing Stigma, Increasing Strength

One of the most significant shifts in mental health awareness is the growing recognition that asking for help is a strength—not a weakness. Athletes, CEOs, teachers, parents, students—people from all walks of life are turning to therapy not because they’re broken, but because they’re invested in their growth.

In fact, a 2022 Harris Poll found that over 60% of U.S. adults have considered therapy, and 47% have attended at least one session. The conversation is changing, and you’re not alone.

“I used to think therapy was just for people in crisis. Now, I see it as the most important investment I’ve made in myself.”
— [Client Testimonial]

A Safe Place to Heal, Grow, and Be Seen

Therapy is more than just talking—it’s a collaborative space where you are fully seen, heard, and supported. At Get Centered, our mission is to meet you where you are, walk beside you, and empower you with tools to move forward.

You don’t have to wait for things to fall apart to begin your healing journey. If you’re ready to explore what life could feel like with support, we’re here.

“Get Centered helped me discover a version of myself I didn’t know existed—confident, calm, and centered.”
— [Client Testimonial]

Ready to Start?

If you’re curious about therapy or wondering if it’s right for you, let’s talk. You deserve to feel whole, supported, and empowered—today and every day.
