Counselors in Training (CIT) and Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselors (PLPC’s) Academy
Get Centered is committed to serving our clients as well as the community. To show the importance we place on exceptional care we created the Get Centered CIT and PLPC Counselors Academy. Through the Academy we can provide a low cost, private pay option for clients, and support Counselors in their development.
Counselors in Training are students in their last semester of Graduate school offering counseling services under the direction of an experienced Get Centered counselor. Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselors are Counselors that have graduated and are fulfilling licensure hour requirements, under supervision, before becoming a professional Counselor. We know having an experienced counselor is important to our clients so we choose the very best practitioners so you can be confident in your care.
The Get Centered CIT and PLPC Academy is a practitioner-oriented training program that is founded in strengths-based learning and a paid opportunity. We emphasize student exploration of their own unique style and help strengthen the development of the interpersonal skills necessary for effective therapeutic relationships. We teach the importance of learning from a diverse group of experienced Counselors and support an appreciation multicultural counseling for individuals, couples, caretakers and groups.
Get Centered uses core competencies in the Academy hiring practices and as a way of assessing for skill and ability development within the CITs and PLPCs. As part of the Academy experience the practitioner and the client are not on their own. The supervisory relationship with our Clinical Director in addition to the Manager of the program is a vital component of the internship experience. Site supervisors are important role models and contribute daily to the CIT’s and PLPC’s professional development. They provide constructive feedback and honest assessments of the CIT’s and PLPC’s performance highlighting their strengths and areas of growth.
Our Academy offers a curriculum based program that spans 9 months. The program is divided into 3 separate trimesters:
- training and onboarding to Get Centered practices and procedures
- clinical development through a caseload of an average of 10-15 clients per week
- business strategy development in preparation for running your own private practice and/or being a part of a group practice as an independent practitioner.
Measurement throughout the curriculum is based in knowledge, skills and ability application through the following key competencies:
- COUNSELING AS A PROFESSION – Private Practice Business Management
- COUNSELING, PREVENTION, AND INTERVENTION SKILLS
- DIVERSITY AND ADVOCACY
- ASSESSMENT
- RESEARCH AND EVALUATION
- DIAGNOSIS
Our goal in offering the Get Centered CIT and PLPC Academy is to support clinicians in the gap between the end of their academic programs and being a part of the professional community. By offering a paid experience, with on-site daily supervision, we are confident that our services will meet the needs of the practitioner as well as the client.
